A BRIEF HISTORY OF MAITLAND RSL SUB-BRANCH

Following the end of WW1 a Returned Soldiers and Sailors sub-Branch was formed in June 1919 at the School of Arts, Victoria St, Maitland where B Capper was elected the first sub-Branch President.   

Since the sub-Branch was formed in 1919 there have only been 17 Presidents up to 2003 with Ernie Bulmer servicing continuously for 26 years.

(The above list was compiled in 1998 after much research by our respected and long serving  Life Member  the late Peter Lord .)

The sub-Branch has had its share of highs and lows and has had a number of moves throughout the years from the School of Arts to 16 Elgin Street in 1923, to 373 High St in 1925, to 425 High Street in 1956, to 421 high Street in 1983 and to 3 Bulwer Street after 421 High Street was leased out in 1991, 421 High Street was sold in 2003 with the sub-Branch remaining at 3 Bulwer Street.
