OPERATION PHOENIX RISING
Fund raising for our 234 Army
Cadet Unit Appeal has begun and will continue until the 30 June 2006.

In November 2005 a fire destroyed a school building which 234
Army Cadet Unit had been using as their base in Maitland.
The fire destroyed all their stores, equipment, band
instruments, records and historical documents.
Items which are normally supplied by the Defence / Army will
be replaced by them, their monetary funds were devastated when they had to
be used to clean up after the fire leaving them with a zero bank
balance. As a result of this the Hunter Valley community
banded together to help the cadets who had given so much to the community in the
past.
This appeal was brought into being on Saturday 11th February
2006 after a a meeting hosted by Maitland RSL sub-branch at their Bulwer Street
Office with ex-service groups and community organisations.
The purpose of the formation of the 234 Cadet Unit Appeal
Steering Committee was to initiate and co-ordinate fundraising activities for
the cadets.
Dowling Real Estate Maitland kicked off with a $1,000
donation direct to the cadets to help them with the clean up costs, the NSW
government donated $8,000, National Servicemen's Association of Australia
donated $500, the Maitland Vietnam Veterans donated a copier and Central
Business Technologies donated a Photocopier, as of the 22 March the fund stands
at 12,000.
As host of the OPERATION PHOENIX RISING appeal, Maitland RSL thanks all those who
have given their support to the appeal.
